Carlos Ausejo is a researcher who graduated as an Archaeologist from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú and holds a master’s degree in Maritime Archaeology from University College London. He is currently a PhD student at the University of Portsmouth and holds a Lloyd’s Register Foundation scholarship on the project, “From Sail to Steam, from Carbon to Green: Empowering Port Communities in the Global South”.
His work addresses the social impact of archaeology and cultural heritage, exploring how these resources can be transformed into valuable assets for the development of surrounding communities and the preservation of heritage. He has extensive experience in public heritage management, having served for the Directorate of Research and Cadastre at the National Institute of Culture and at the Ministry of Culture (2017-2018). He is the founder of the Peruvian Centre for Maritime and Underwater Archaeology (2009), an active member of ICOMOS – ICUCH, and most recently, part of the University of Portsmouth Centre for Port Cities and Maritime Cultures.
