ICUCH Travel Grant
ICUCH is currently offering travel grants.
Start your journey by submitting your application.
In partnership with the National Monuments Service in Ireland, ICUCH is offering funding by way of travel grants to cover the costs of up to a maximum of five individuals. These can be ICUCH members or early career heritage professionals , and who can demonstrably show that they are not in a position to fund their own travel. The grant will facilitate attendance at relevant events that will enhance their work and careers while enabling them to contribute to both ICUCH’s mission and advancing the objectives of the UNESCO 2001 Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage.
Events may include attending as observers at high level UNESCO meetings focused on issues relating to the 2001 Convention, as well as workshops, conferences and seminars related to the management and protection of our underwater cultural heritage.

Early career professional (ECP) refers to individuals in the initial stages of their professional journey, typically within a few years of completing their education or training. Characterized by building work experience, gaining skills, and establishing oneself in a chosen field.
Key characteristics of ECPs:

full-time work. - Building Experience: ECPs are actively seeking to gain practical skills and knowledge in
their field. - Mentorship and Development: They often benefit from mentorship and guidance to navigate their career path.
Examples of ECPs: Interns and co-op students, new graduates, entry-level positions, researchers in the early stages of their career, and students in advanced degrees. This may include training or working as an underwater archaeologist, conservator, finds specialist, legal studies/scholar, etc.
Mentorship: The successful applicants will be mentored by ICUCH members to enrich their experience.
Repeat Applicants
A successful applicant will be able to apply for a repeat round of funding if it is clear that the follow-up
event will continue to inform and assist their career. Any repeat application cannot be on the same
year. Any decision on an additional application will be dependent on the applicant having submitted a
post-event report (see below).
The ICUCH Bureau will assess applications under the following criteria:
- Quality of application
- Completion of all sections of the application
- Regional diversity
- If a repeat application, direct relevance to applicant’s career path to be demonstrated,
including outcomes of previous event experience
Deadlines
All applications should be submitted by 1 February each year.
All applicants will be notified of results within two weeks of closing date.
Post Event Report
The successful recipient of the grant will be required to submit a short report of approximately 600 words outlining their personal views and reflections on the event attended. The report should include key insights, impressions, and any particularly meaningful discussions or experiences, as well as how the event influenced their immediate and future career.
