Important Information

Confirmation by ICUCH’s Bureau that an applicant has been successful in being welcomed as an expert committee member is a widely established mark of excellence in underwater cultural heritage. 

Candidates, in order to apply, should first be a current member of ICOMOS.  Applicants must be nominated by either their National ICOMOS Committees or by a standing ICUCH Expert Member.

There are two tiers of membership:

1. Expert member
2. Associate member

Membership is based on professional experience, publication record, and adherence to and promotion of the principles of the 2001 UNESCO Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage. Applicants can be accepted as full expert members, with voting rights, within the Committee of ICUCH. 

ICUCH Committee will expect participation by the accepted candidate in its events and decisions. Attendance at a minimum of one meeting every year is required to stay in the Committee.

Should it be considered that applicants require additional professional experience, as may be the case with young career professionals, then they can be accepted as an Associate member for a specified time, during which they will be expected to contribute actively to the work of ICUCH. The ICUCH Bureau will make the decision, in due course, to elevate an Associate member to full Expert  member status, based on contribution or may, due to lack of engagement, withdraw Associate membership from the individual.
