
Hakan Oniz
Dr. Hakan Oniz is an associate professor who graduated from the Department of Art History and Archaeology at Eastern Mediterranean University. He completed his master’s and Ph.D. in underwater archaeology at Selçuk University in Konya, Turkey. Dr. Oniz is the Director of Underwater Cultural Heritage in the CMAS (World Underwater Confederation) Scientific Committee, a member of the ICOMOS-ICUCH (International Committee of Underwater Cultural Heritage), and a specialist member of the ICOMOS Turkish National Committee. Dr. Oniz is also one of the founders and the first coordinator of the UNESCO UniTwin Underwater Archaeology Network (2012-2015). He is the head of the Mediterranean Underwater Cultural Heritage Division at the Mediterranean Civilizations Research Institute of Akdeniz University, the head of the Department of Restoration and Conservation of Cultural Heritage at the Faculty of Art, and the director of the Kemer Underwater Archaeology Research Center at the same university. He is also a member of the UNESCO National Observation Committee of Underwater Archaeology. He conducts underwater archaeology research and excavation projects on the Turkish Mediterranean coast and gives lectures on underwater archaeology and underwater photography at the bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. levels at several universities in Turkey and Europe.
